Lawyers land in hot water over Maulavi who recorded PCoI proceedings

Lawyers attending the PCoI proceedings into the Easter Sunday attacks have been banned from bringing mobile phones following the incident where a Maulavi of the ACJU was caught recording the testimony of Galagoda Atthe Gnanasara. The Maulavi had brought the phone in with the help of his lawyers.

Judge Janak de Silva, the Chairman of the Presidential Commission, has directed the Secretary of the Commission to take legal action against the lawyer and the maulavi.

Although witnesses to the Presidential Commission at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall were barred from carrying mobile phones, lawyers were allowed to carry the devices.

However, lawyers will also be barred from carrying mobile phones inside the commission from tomorrow.
