Launch an investigation immediately on Kandy house collapse : BASL tells IGP

The Bar Association of Sri Lanka has written to Acting IGP C.D Wickramaratne on the recent collapse of a house in Buwelikada, Kandy which resulted in the death of one of its members, Attorney at Law Achala Ekanayake and her family. The BASL in its letter has raised concerns as to how there is a trend of not taking any further action by state bodies after initial investigations are done when such an incident occurs.

It noted that it is concerned about the incident for several reasons. “We are naturally concerned about the death of our member in these circumstances and we are equally concerned that this sort of incident cannot affect another human being irrespective of the standing of such person” it said. The BASL also noted that there have also been accusations of investigations not being properly conducted in similar situations.
