Lands for drinking water – NWSDB thinks about a water costs covering strategy!

As the daily operating costs of the Water Board increase Water Resources and Water Supply and Drainage Board is considering recovering those costs from the sale or lease of its owned , Chairman of the Drainage Board Nishantha Ranatunga said.

Speaking to the media after a discussion held at the Peradeniya University this morning (21), the chairman further said that due to the increase in electricity bills, the price of chlorine has risen sharply during the past couple of months exponentially.
He said that the board has to bear a huge expense in providing drinking water to the people and by now the board has to collect around Rs. 07 billion from water consumers.

He said the plan was to reduce costs through water wastage, solar energy, etc., but the board hopes to generate revenue from the sale or lease of unused land owned by the board.
