Lady Ridgeway child patients hit by food shortage!

Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital is currently experiencing a severe food crisis in addition to medicines hospital sources said.
According to the sources , although protein must be included in the diet for proper growth of children, the current daily diet of inpatient children are deprived with meat, fish, eggs or lentils.

Some of the children who are being treated at the hospital for burn injuries have to be given 10 eggs a day as it is mandatory to give protein foods to help the burnt skin recover. However suppliers have failed to provide them due to the sky rocketing prices of food items.

However, the sources further say that the patients who are currently receiving treatment for burn injuries have received a limited number of eggs from a donor and after that quantity, it will not be possible to continue.

Meanwhile, pediatrician Dr. Deepal Perera reveals that a significant number of sick children admitted to the Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital daily are suffering from malnutrition.

 

Meanwhile, it is reported that the majority of sick children who receive inpatient treatment do not take the food provided by the hospital as they were provided by their respective homes. However due to transport issues and related economic situation has compelled them also to take meals from hospital sources further showing another aspect of the present crisis.
