Jaffna’s Secretary of the organisation on the disappeared died of a heart attack!

The District President of the organisation, set up to locate the disappeared persons during the separatist war, has died of a heart attack.

She was 69.

For the past 13 years, she had been engaged in the struggle to know the whereabouts of her disappeared son. The lady Mary Fatima Arulanandan was protesting against the disappearances when she contracted the sickness. Mrs Arulanandan died following admission to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital.

She has made representations on behalf of many other disappearances during the past decade.

The organisation making representations on behalf of the disappeared has condoled over her death and said that so far, 322 people who relentlessly dedicated themselves to finding out the whereabouts of the disappeared loved ones had died.
