The suspect behind the brutal murder of M. Ibrahim (67), the watchman at Hatton Jumma Mosque, has been captured on multiple security cameras. The incident, which occurred on Friday (08), involved the assailant breaking into the mosque after Friday prayers, killing the watchman, and stealing money from the prayer box.
The victim, a father of four, was fatally attacked around 1:00 am in the room where the watchman rests. The assailant struck him on the head with an object. The investigation revealed that the suspect had visited the mosque the day before the crime, where he was recorded on security cameras wandering around various areas, taking items from the church’s kitchen, and placing them in a bag.
The Hatton police have initiated an investigation involving multiple departments to apprehend the perpetrator. The post-mortem examination of the deceased was conducted today by the expert forensic doctor at Dik Oya Hospital.
