The Medical Supply Division has issued a special circular based on the recommendations of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA), instructing all government hospitals to withdraw two categories of Aspirin produced in the country.
This decision comes after recent testing by the NMRA revealed that certain samples of Aspirin used in several government hospitals were of substandard quality.
To safeguard patient safety and ensure the use of high-quality medications, the Ministry of Health took prompt action in response to the NMRA’s findings. As a result, the specified two categories of Aspirin are no longer in use in government hospitals.
However, Dr. Kapila Wickramanayake, Director of the Medical Supply Division of the Ministry of Health, assures the public that there is no shortage of Aspirin in hospitals despite the withdrawal of these two categories of drugs. The Ministry remains committed to maintaining an adequate supply of safe and effective medications for patients in need.
