Government Medical Officers’ Association has voiced concern regarding the delayed release of the committee’s investigation report into the medicines that caused fatal complications. The association identifies this delay as a significant shortcoming in the process.
The association emphasizes the importance of issuing the investigation report before any subsequent actions, including legal measures, are taken. With the necessary report regarding the allergenic drug yet to be issued, potential legal actions involving the drug company, the drug’s distributor in Sri Lanka, and the medical professionals who prescribed it remain in limbo. Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe, the association’s media spokesperson, highlights that such legal actions cannot be pursued in the absence of the crucial report.
Dr. Wijesinghe further notes the inadequacy of domestic laboratories for assessing the drug’s quality-related issues. He points out that inquiries into the drug’s quality necessitate laboratory facilities beyond the country’s borders, namely in Australia or Singapore.
The association firmly asserts that this delay contradicts the primary objective of the report, rendering the current situation unacceptable.
