Colombo Ginthupitiya road locked down – 149 sent to quarantine

Ginthupitiya Road, Colombo 13 has been locked down after a resident has tested positive for Covid 19. The suspected Covid 19 case is said to be a merchant sailor that had returned to the country from India on June 8. He had undergone quarantine at the Boossa quarantine center and had been released after a period of 14 days.

However, he has now tested positive while remaining in self-isolation at home. According to sources 11 family members and 149 people belonging to 29 families in the area have now been taken to quarantine.

Health officials have stressed that this does not indicate that there is a community spread. However just a matter of 24 hours before holding a press conference the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) had stressed there is a danger of a Covid 19 second wave due to the large number of foreign returnees arriving in the island daily.
