Forming the all-Party government was further delayed.

Inordinate delays could be caused in forming the all-party government due to the inability to reach a final agreement between the President and the SLPP.

Recently, the President and the Prime Minister held several rounds of negotiations with many political parties regarding the establishment of an all-party government.

In these discussions, the majority of the political parties represented in Parliament agreed to join an all-party government.

The JVP, however, did not participate in those discussions and the Samagi Jana Bala Wegaya (SJB) and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party declined ministerial positions in an all-party government.

Hence, the president and the prime minister decided to form an all-party government by inviting MPs who are willing to join the Cabinet from those parties who refused to accept cabinet responsibilities.

According to political sources, the formation of the cabinet will be further delayed due to the SLPP’s demand for a majority of ministers, which could exceed the agreed number of ministries in the all-part government.
