Both the University of Moratuwa and the Government Inspectorate Department have jointly confirmed that the contentious audio tape featuring a telephone conversation between former Director General of the Bribery Commission, Dilrukshi Dias Wickramasinghe, and Vanguard leader Nisshanka Senadhipati was tampered with.
As a result, Dilrukshi Dias Wickramasinghe, who was suspended based on the audio tape, has been acquitted of the charges by the Public Service Commission.
The year 2021 witnessed an exhaustive investigation conducted by the University of Moratuwa and the Government Inspectorate Department, unearthing the revelation that the controversial audio tape had been manipulated to distort the entirety of the telephone conversation.
In 2019, the circulation of the said audio tape on social media prompted the Public Service Commission to initiate an inquiry into the matter, ultimately leading to the temporary suspension of Dilrukshi Dias Wickramasinghe on September 24 of that year.
At the time of the incident, Dilrukshi Dias Wickramasinghe held the position of Deputy Additional Solicitor General at the Attorney General’s Department.
This event generated considerable political discourse, marked by Dilrukshi Dias Wickramasinghe’s call for Vanguard leader Nishanka Senadhipathi to release the complete, unedited audio recording of their conversation.
Presently retired, Dilrukshi Dias Wickramasinghe will be entitled to her withheld salary and benefits as a result of the decision by the Public Service Commission, bringing a conclusion to this protracted controversy.
