Dual Citizens to resign from Parliament?

Dhammika Perera is likely to be appointed to replace Basil

Three Parliamentarians, including former Minister Basil Rajapaksa, who hold citizenship in two countries, are likely, to send in their resignations to the Speaker before the Parliament takes up the 21st amendment for debate and subsequent passage.

Informed sources said this includes a controversial woman Parliamentarian who crossed over to the government and a prominent politician from the hill country.

Reports indicate that these Parliamentarians value being dual citizens rather than holding on to an MP position in Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, plans are afoot to nominate business tycoon Dhammika Perera to Parliament to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Basil Rajapaksa.

A close associate of Perera told Lanaksara that he is likely to be appointed as a key minister in the government following his nomination to Parliament.
