The owner of the Dambulla Thunders franchise of the Lanka Premier League (LPL), Tamim Rahman, has been re-remanded until June 7 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage. The magistrate instructed the investigators to present the recordings of the alleged telephone conversation regarding match-fixing to the court.
Rahman, a British citizen of Bangladeshi origin, was arrested at Katunayake Airport on May 22, a day after the LPL player auction, and was initially remanded until May 31 by the Colombo Magistrate. He was arrested by officials from the Sports Ministry’s Special Investigation Unit for the Prevention of Sports-related Offenses.
Members of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) unit for the prevention of corruption were also present during the LPL auction. Following Rahman’s arrest, the LPL has decided to terminate the contract with the Dambulla Thunders.
