Champika Ranawaka foresees a definite power cut in January!

Former Minister of Energy , MP Patali Champika Ranawaka says that there will be power cuts throughout the island after January 15.
He points out that the situation will create with the insufficient supply of furnace oil produced by the Sapugaskanda oil refinery. Furnace will run in to a shortages due to refinery shutdown in ​next month due to insufficient oil stocks.

Power cuts have been going on in several parts of the country for about 45 minutes without being notified.

According to Patali Champika Ranawaka, the current stock of oil at the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery will be sufficient only until mid-January.

He said that although the refinery was commissioned on December 10, it had a capacity of 16,000 metric tons, which was limited to 500 metric tons per day.

He said that even if refined oil was used in that way, it would only be enough for 25 days, adding that only 12,500 metric tons of refined oil would be available for use in power generation.

Meanwhile, the CEB has only 21,200 metric tons of fuel in its warehouses and in this situation the issue of refined oil for power generation will have to be stopped, he said
