Castle Women’s Hospital Sees Surge in Childbirth Registrations with Introduction of Father Accompaniment

Dr. Ajith Dantanarayana, the Hospital Director of Castle Women’s Hospital, has reported a significant rise in the number of new mothers registering for childbirth following the launch of a program allowing fathers to accompany them during the delivery process.

According to Dr. Dantanarayana, expectant mothers from areas beyond Colombo have been increasingly contacting the hospital for registration, indicating a growing interest in availing themselves of the facility.

The director highlighted that the initiative has contributed to the surge in registrations, as mothers value the opportunity for fathers to be present during childbirth, fostering a supportive environment.

However, the increased demand has posed challenges in accommodating both newborns and accompanying fathers. With approximately 30 births occurring daily at the hospital, there’s a pressing need for additional infrastructure, particularly in providing adequate accommodation and toilet facilities for newborns and their accompanying parents.

Dr. Dantanarayana appealed to potential donors capable of constructing new buildings and toilets to support the hospital in meeting these essential needs. Such contributions would alleviate the strain on existing facilities and ensure a comfortable environment for mothers, fathers, and newborns alike.
