A woman alleged to be the daughter of the former underworld gang leader, Sothi Upali, was apprehended under suspicion in a raid carried out by a team of Mawathagama police officers yesterday (09). The operation, conducted in collaboration with four individuals, resulted in her arrest.
The arrested woman is known to have residences in both Madivela Kotte and Uda Mulla Battaramulla areas. The arrest transpired at a residence situated in the Augustawatta area of Kandy.
This action unfolded in the context of a broader operation aimed at tackling underworld gang activity. The police, acting on intelligence about a group of underworld gang members connected to criminal activities, executed a raid in the Mawathagama region. It was during this operation that the said individual was apprehended, alongside another individual named Gajamuthu.
Subsequently, the arrested woman has been transferred to the Kandy Police for further investigations and inquiries.
Chief Inspector Tilak Samaranayake, the station commander of the anti-corruption division, is leading a dedicated team to investigate this incident, as per the directives of Chief Inspector Rasika Sampath, head of the Kandy Police Headquarters.
