President Ranil Wickremasinghe has recommended that Attorney General Sanjay Rajaratnam be given a six-month extension. It is said that the relevant recommendation has been forwarded to the Constitutional Council, which is to be convened next Tuesday for approval.
Divaina Sunday newspaper says that the president has mentioned that Since the Attorney General plays a pivotal role as a government representative working with the Bishops’ council on the Easter Sunday attack investigation, the extension was given.
However Political analysts have said that Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya’s tenure also to be expired soon. If he retires more probability of appointing AG as the next Chief Justice.
