A Woman’s Complications Linked to Same Medicine that Killed the 21-Year-Old Girl

Following the death of 21-year-old girl who died due to an allergic reaction to the antibiotic Ceftriaxone given after being admitted to the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital due to a stomach ailment, a woman who suffered an allergic reaction to the same medicine is being treated in the intensive care unit of the Kandy National Hospital, according to the President of the All Ceylon Nurses Union, Ravindra Kahandarachchi.

A woman named M.G. Anulavati who was receiving treatment in Ward No. 31 of the Kandy National Hospital has suffered from this severe allergy.

After giving the vaccine, the doctors have taken steps to save the woman from dying and put her in the intensive care unit after treatment.

Medical experts addressing the tragic death of Chamodi Sandipani Madhushika Jayaratne, the young daughter who passed away at Peradeniya Hospital, explained that such allergies are exceedingly rare, leaving medical professionals with limited options to prevent them.
