A strange substance like threads or spider web has been floating around Sooriyawewa, Maha Pelessa, Wewegama, Tissamaharama and Beralihela areas for about three hours this morning.
Locals say the material, which looks like spider webs, could not be caught on camera as it floated and was trapped in trees and vehicles.
They say they have never had such an experience before.
When inquired about this from Professor Chandana Jayaratne of the Department of Physics, University of Colombo, he stated that it is not possible to say without proper inspection, but there is a high probability of a smoke contaminant rising into the air within 2 or 3 days from a substance such as plastic that burns in a factory or elsewhere .
It is reported that the Meteorological Department and the Central Environmental Authority have been informed about this through the Disaster Management Center.
