Prasanna Ranatunga, the Minister of Public Security and Tourism, who went to the Lanka Hospital today (07) to see Prof. Ranil Jayawardena, a specialist nutritionist has been refused to treat by the doctor sources said.
After a special meeting this afternoon, he had gone to the Lanka Hospital to see his Doctor , who is a special nutritionist on a prior booking . While waiting for his number, a nurse came and informed Minister Prasanna Ranatunga that the professor was refraining from giving medical advice to politicians.
But the minister, who had been waiting for his turn, had gone to see the doctor. Prof. Ranil Jayawardena has stated that he has personally stopped treating politicians. It is learned that Minister Prasanna Ranatunga is suffering from a thyroid problem.
Prof. Ranil Jayawardena is a Specialist Clinical Nutritionist. He holds an MSc (Honors) in Clinical Nutrition from the University of Glasgow and a PhD in Nutrition from the University of Queensland Technology, Australia. He is a registered nutritionist in the Medical Council of Sri Lanka and in the United Kingdom and Australia. He is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo.
However, there are pros and cons to Prof. Ranil Jayewardene’s decision.
