7 Sri Lankan Fugitives Listed in INTERPOL’s Red Notice!

Seven Sri Lankans among global fugitives sought by international law enforcement

In recent reports, it has been revealed that seven Sri Lankan fugitives are currently listed under INTERPOL’s Red Notice, joining a total of 6,872 fugitives worldwide.

Out of the seven Sri Lankan fugitives, four are wanted within Sri Lanka itself, while the remaining three have Red Notices issued at the request of foreign countries for crimes committed in their territories.

The Sri Lankan fugitives wanted in their home country are De Zoisa Jagamuni Sujeeva, also known as Kosgoda Sujee (38 years old), Nadaraja Sivaraja (49), Munisamy Thermaseelan (50), and Wicknarasa Selvanthan (35). Kosgoda Sujee is wanted in connection with a murder case, Nadaraja Sivaraja for aiding and abetting the killing of the late minister Lakshman Kadiragamer, Thermaseelan for the possession of two hand grenades and 200 live rounds, and Selvanthan on charges of theft and murder.

Additionally, Sri Lankan citizen Kumarasami Navaneethan (52) from Vavuniya is wanted by Romania for murder, Mohammed Powmi (61) from Alabodagama is wanted by India for involvement in counterfeit currency notes, and Manikkavasagar Vijayaraja (41) from Jaffna is wanted by Canada for first-degree fraud.

In related developments, Interpol has also issued yellow notices for five more Sri Lankans. Yellow Notices are issued to aid in locating missing persons, often minors, or identifying individuals who are unable to identify themselves.

Among these cases, Balakrishan Niresh (31) went missing in Vavuniya on January 27th, 2022, Saman Wijesiri (68) from Vibadde Ralala went missing on October 13th, 2018, and Gayindu Kitmuka Madurapperuma (20) disappeared in Colombo when he was just 5 years old.

Efforts to apprehend these fugitives are ongoing, and authorities are determined to ensure that the rule of law is upheld, both within Sri Lanka and in cooperation with international partners.
