4000 Indian trawlers in waters – Northern fishermen sought Navy vigilance

Dinasena Rathugamage –
As many as 4,000 Indian fishing trawlers have set sail for the Northern Sea and other seas since India’s two-month fishing ban on fishermen in Tamil Nadu ended today (15).

India imposes a fishing ban every year from April 15 to June 15 to allow for the natural growth of fisheries in the sea.

The Jaffna United Fishermen’s Union has requested the Navy to suspend the entry of Indian fishermen’s trawlers into the North Sea as soon as the ban is lifted.

Meanwhile, the Jaffna Fisheries Association has sent a letter to the Rameswaran Fishermen’s Association of India requesting that hundreds of trawlers should not come into the North Sea and affect the fishing industry of the fishermen in the North.
