2.6 million kilos of fruits and vegetables stuck at Dambulla

Nearly 2.6 million kilos of fruits and vegetables brought by farmers to the Dambulla Economic Center today(14) cannot be sold, said Matale District Parliamentarian Rohini Kaviratne. Although the farmers were told to bring these products to Dambulla today, they are in big trouble as the market is closed, she said.

Commenting further on this she said, “As in the case of the first Covid wave, this time too the government has put farmers, businessmen and middlemen in trouble. Farmers were instructed to bring stocks of vegetables to the Dambulla Economic Center yesterday. But today no businessman has come to Dambulla. 2.6 million kilos of vegetables have been brought to Dambulla today.
This government has no plan to distribute the vegetable harvest in the Matale district to the people. Without saying the word ‘curfew’ the farmers were confused and a great disaster was waged today. Several politicians and businessmen are waiting to create a crisis to change the prices of the Dambulla Economic Center. After the farmers brought in the vegetables, they piled them up and imposed transport barriers to create a food shortage in the country and make huge profits.
