Twelve Indian nationals who were involved in online scams were arrested by the Divisional Crime Investigation Department of the Police from the Aniwatta area of Kandy yesterday (02).
Seven laptops, 23 monitors, 50 mobile phones, 11 routers, and a stack of SIM cards were also seized from the suspects while in the raid Police said. The arrested were working in a rented luxury house in the Aniwatta area for three lakhs per month.
Investigations have revealed that these suspects rented this house last February and carried out the online betting racket have opened accounts in several government and private banks and obtained 11 ATM cards for easy transactions in this country.
The police also say that the suspects who have carried out the gambling racket on a large scale have brought a chef from India to cook for them.
The suspects have been handed over to the Police Computer Crime Unit for further investigation.
By the last week of June Month there have been over 200 foreigners mostly from India and China were arrested from the western province while involved in online scams on a large scale.
