His journey in social activism began with providing aid to victims of the 2004 Tsunami disaster in Sri Lanka. He established Sylvia Lanka International Foundation, later renamed Sylvia Lanka Foundation, in memory of his mother, to continue his philanthropic endeavors.

Since 2005, Mr. Udugampola extended his support to various natural disaster-stricken countries such as Indonesia, Philippines, Nepal, Cambodia, and Haiti, in collaboration with international humanitarian organizations like the British Red Cross.

A key focus of his work was providing educational opportunities to underprivileged children in Sri Lanka, through initiatives like the monthly scholarship program initiated by Sylvia Lanka Foundation.

Mr. Udugampola’s dedication, relentless efforts, and exemplary leadership were instrumental in the success of Sylvia Lanka Foundation. His commitment to philanthropy was exemplified by his participation in marathons across six countries to raise funds.

A significant milestone for Sylvia Lanka Foundation was its expansion into supporting the health sector in Sri Lanka during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. Under Mr. Udugampola’s guidance, the foundation facilitated the donation of modern health and medical equipment worth billions of rupees from Britain to hospitals across Sri Lanka.

As the founder of Sylvia Lanka Foundation, Mr. Udugampola was revered as an important elder figure by all. Affectionately known as “Uncle” by those close to him, his profound love for Sri Lanka and his silent service to the community will be deeply missed.

We bid farewell to a visionary leader, a compassionate philanthropist, and a beloved mentor.
