The Minister pointed out that the people will be able to get this benefit from the removal of the government imposed Rs 26 surcharge imposed on diesel and petrol.

The Minister noted that the loss incurred by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) due to the removal of the surcharge of fuel is more than Rs. 35 per litre of petrol. The loss from per litre of diesel has been estimated at Rs. 25.

Fuel prices in the world market temporarily reduced in the last two to three months due to the Covid 19 pandemic. However, with the lifting of restrictions imposed by many countries around the world fuel prices have once again begun to increase.
