Anula Bulathsinhala, a veteran stage, teledrama and film actress as well as a singer, passed away today. Bulathsinhala (73) had been receiving treatment at the Jayawardenapura Hospital at the time of her death.
She was born on September 21, 1947 and was educated at the Karukkuwa Sugathananda Maha Vidyalaya. She joined stage dramas after having met R.R Samarakoon and Chandra Kaluarachchi at her first place of work.
She voiced Sita Devi in the radio drama ‘Ravana’ and was chosen to play Kuveni for Manel Jayasena in Henry Jayasena’s stage play ‘Kuveni’.
She then starred in a number of stage plays such as “Neinage Suduwa”, “Tharawo Igilethi” and “Rathu Hettakaari”. Her song ‘Deekiri Deekiri’ in Rathu Hettakari remains popular to this day.
She also acted in films such as ‘Situ Diyaniyo’, ‘Nil Diya Yahana’, ‘Mahindagamanaya’, ‘Goal’ and ‘Asandimitta’.
She is the beloved wife of renowned lyricist and playwright Lucian Bulathsinhala and is the mother of singer and teledrama actor Harsha Bulathsinhala and singer Indrachapa Bulathsinhala.
