Deputy Solicitor General of the Attorney General’s Department Dileep Peiris says that the best proof of how much money the former Negombo Superintendent of Prisons Anuruddha Sampayo has earned through devious means is proved by him buying two luxury vehicles worth tens of millions in the name of a friend and paying over one million rupees in monthly lease installments. This was stated at the Negombo Magistrate’s Court yesterday (31).

The four suspects in the case, including former Negombo Superintendent of Prisons Anuruddha Sampayo, were produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court yesterday. They have been arrested in connection to a number of irregularities that had occurred in the Negombo Prison.

Dileep Peiris objected to the granting of bail to Anuruddha Sampayo in the case before Negombo Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya. Dileep Peiris stated that an investigation is underway under the Money Laundering Act into how this prison superintendent, who earns an average salary, was able to purchase two such expensive vehicles.
