A doctor arrested in connection with bomb incident of Borella church

A retired doctor from Piliyandala has been arrested on suspicion of bombing the All Saints Church in Borella, police said.

The suspect who had bombed the mosque on the 11th was arrested in Embilipitiya and remanded in police custody, police said.

According to the Police sources that the bomber, who was arrested in Panamure, Embilipitiya on the 15th, had placed the bomb in the mosque on a contract given by a Muslim man for Rs. 50,000.

He had also said that he was the person who brought a bomb to Narahenpita lanka Hospital couple of months ago.

But now he says that the two bombs were planted on the instructions of the arrested Piliyandala doctor.

However, the arrested doctor has denied all the allegations. The doctor said that he knew the person who planted the bomb and had worked as a security guard at his medical center in Piliyandala.

The Colombo South Divisional Crime Investigation Unit is currently conducting investigations and it has been revealed to the officers that the bomber was giving contradictory information with the intention of misleading the police investigations.

Investigators have found that he behaves as fearless and relaxed as any other criminal.

A senior police official said that security cameras at the hospital are to be analysed to confirm that the claim made by this suspect.

However, police said they had arrested the suspects in connection with the Narahenpita bomb within the first 48 hours of its discovery.

The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a police station.

However, police found four pistols, two revolvers, two swords, and an unidentified firearm in the house of the Piliyandala doctor who was arrested on the information of the suspect.
