Former Minister Wimal Weerawansa today launched a satyagraha protest demanding the withdrawal of the proposed education reforms and the resignation of Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya from her position as Minister of Education.
The protest is being held in front of the Ministry of Education.
In a statement, the National Freedom Front said that yesterday (11), Wimal Weerawansa, along with a group of supporters, met the Mahanayake Theros to inform them about the proposed education reforms, which they claim are inappropriate for children and harmful to the education system as a whole. They also highlighted the challenges these reforms could pose to students and teachers nationwide, as well as concerns over the reforms introduced by the Minister of Education.
The statement further noted that Wimal Weerawansa met the Mahanayake Theros in his capacity as the convener of the Elders for Children organization.
