A 36-year-old Russian national was rescued by the Narigama Police Lifeguards this afternoon (05) after being swept away by a strong wave while swimming at Narigama Beach in Hikkaduwa, the Tourist Police said.
The Russian national had arrived at the beach with his girlfriend on Sunday afternoon. While she remained on the shore, he went swimming and was suddenly carried away by the current. His girlfriend promptly informed the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Tourist Police.
