Three Palestinians have died from starvation in the last 24 hours, and at least 56 others, including 22 aid seekers, were killed in Israeli military attacks across Gaza, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. The escalating violence, coupled with a deepening humanitarian crisis, has pushed the region to the brink of catastrophe.
Local reports indicate an intensification of Israeli assaults on Gaza City, with residential neighborhoods enduring some of the fiercest attacks in recent weeks. “The bombardment has been relentless,” said a member of our team on the ground. “Entire communities are being shattered, and the situation is growing more desperate by the hour.”
Israel’s military announced plans to escalate operations further, with Defence Minister Israel Katz approving a strategy to seize Gaza City. The military will call up 60,000 reservists and extend the service of 20,000 more in the coming weeks to support what it describes as a “gradual, precise, and targeted operation” in densely populated areas, including Zeitoun and Jabalia. An Israeli military official told journalists that these neighborhoods mark the initial stages of the operation, which will expand into areas previously untouched by ground forces.
The announcement has drawn sharp criticism from relatives of Israeli captives held in Gaza, who accused the government of undermining ceasefire efforts. Hamas recently approved a ceasefire proposal, but the families called the military’s plan “a stab in the heart of the families and the public in Israel.” They argue that the government is prioritizing territorial control over the safe return of more than 200 captives taken during the October 7 attacks, which also killed 1,139 people in Israel.
The war, now in its 22nd month, has exacted a staggering toll. Gaza’s Health Ministry reports at least 62,122 deaths and 156,758 injuries, with most residents displaced multiple times. Neighborhoods lie in ruins, and starvation deaths are rising amid warnings of widespread famine from human rights groups.
“The humanitarian crisis is spiraling out of control,” said a representative from a local aid organization. “Access to food, water, and medical care is critically limited, and the intensified fighting only worsens the suffering.”
As mediators continue to push for a ceasefire, the prospect of peace remains elusive.
