The Gampaha High Court today (03) granted bail to all three suspects, including former Minister Mervyn Silva, who were in remand custody over the Kiribathgoda land fraud case.
The bail application submitted by Mervyn Silva was considered before High Court Judge W. K. D. Wijeyarathne. Accordingly, Mervyn Silva, Jayantha Cabraal, and Naveen Weerakoon were granted bail.
Each defendant was released on a cash bail of Rs. 200,000 and a personal bail of Rs. 500,000. The court also imposed a travel ban, prohibiting them from travelling overseas.
Further, the defendants were strictly warned against attempting to influence witnesses and were ordered to appear before the Criminal Investigation Department every Sunday.
Mervyn Silva and the two others were arrested on March 5 following a lengthy investigation by the Criminal Investigation Department into the preparation of forged deeds for land located in the Kiribathgoda area.
They were produced before the Mahara Magistrate’s Court on March 6 and remanded on the same day. Mervyn Silva has been in custody for nearly four months until being granted bail today.
