The passenger flyover at the Moratuwa Egoda Uyana railway station, located on the coastal railway line, has suddenly collapsed.
However, no one was on the bridge at the time of the collapse, and no injuries have been reported.
According to the police, the incident occurred around 7:40 PM today (26th). The bridge collapsed shortly after a train heading towards Galle passed through.
As a result, the railway track from Moratuwa to Panadura is currently blocked, with train operations limited to a single track. Technical officers from the Railway Department and the Electricity Board have arrived at the scene and are working to remove the debris from the collapsed bridge.
The Railway Department has stated that necessary measures will be taken to restore normal train operations by tomorrow (27th) morning.
