A former Sri Lankan MP from the Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP), Kulasingam Dhileeban, has been arrested by the Q Branch of the Tamil Nadu police for allegedly obtaining an Indian passport using forged address proof documents.

Indian media reports confirm that Dhileeban has been remanded in Puzhal Central Prison in Tamil Nadu following his arrest.
His detention is linked to a 2019 case involving several Sri Lankan nationals accused of using fraudulent documents to secure Indian passports from the Madurai Passport Office. As part of the ongoing investigation, authorities had issued a lookout notice for Dhileeban at all airports.

On February 11, Indian immigration officials intercepted him upon arrival at Cochin International Airport and handed him over to the Q Branch police in Madurai.
The fake passport scandal gained widespread attention in 2019 when it was discovered that approximately 60 Sri Lankans, all residing on the same street, had successfully obtained Indian passports.
