Namal Rajapaksa Criticizes AKD’s Comments on Former President’s Residence

In response to recent comments made by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, MP Namal Rajapaksa has accused him of resorting to political revenge. Dissanayake had suggested that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa should either pay rent or vacate his official residence in Wijerama Mawatha, a statement that has sparked strong reactions from Rajapaksa and his supporters.

Speaking to the media, MP Namal Rajapaksa condemned Dissanayake’s remarks, stating that the suggestion to remove the former President from the residence was part of a plan to sell the property. He emphasized that the residence is a privilege granted by the Constitution to former Presidents for their safety and well-being. Rajapaksa reminded Dissanayake that this practice is followed in many countries, not just Sri Lanka.

“If Dissanayake wants to remove former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, he can make that request in writing. Granting a residence to former Presidents is a practice in every country,” Rajapaksa said.

He further criticized Dissanayake for focusing on political revenge instead of addressing the needs of the public, claiming that the President’s actions were a distraction from more pressing issues. Rajapaksa suggested that Dissanayake’s true intentions were finally being revealed, as he shifted his focus away from governance to personal vendettas.

Meanwhile, political analysts have pointed out that Dissanayake, who made several promises during the campaign, may be feeling pressure to deliver on those commitments. This could be influencing some of his decisions, including his comments about the former President’s residence. The growing tension between the two political figures highlights the current political climate in Sri Lanka, where power struggles and personal disputes are increasingly visible.
