Five politicians, including the influential wife of a prominent political figure implicated in various frauds and corruption cases, are set to be arrested early this year, according to reliable government sources revealed to Mawbima Newspaper reported today.
The list of individuals expected to be arrested includes a powerful politician accused of defrauding people by falsely promising foreign employment, a current Member of Parliament representing the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, and several leaders involved in misconduct within the tourist board.
Additionally, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Commission for the Investigation of Bribery or Corruption are preparing to file cases against more than ten individuals accused of exploiting the nation’s wealth. These cases involve irregularities in fighter jet transactions and controversial bond transactions.
Investigations conducted during the Yahapalana government into the wife of a prominent politician failed to result in legal action due to procedural shortcomings.
A senior government official stated that once these investigations are properly concluded, the law will be enforced promptly and formally against all suspects.
