Former Minister Dr. Wijayadasa Rajapaksa officially announced his retirement from politics today (20), stating that he will not contest any upcoming elections.
He made this statement while addressing questions from journalists about his political future after visiting the Sri Dalada Maligawa.
When asked about the possibility of returning to Parliament, Dr. Rajapaksa firmly denied it, saying, “No, I have no such ambitions.”
“I have decided not to contest the upcoming parliamentary elections. All 225 members of Parliament have been labeled as thieves and corrupt, largely due to public opinion shaped by the media. I have no desire to be associated with that narrative,” he explained.
Dr. Rajapaksa further emphasized that he sees no reason to remain in politics, given the prevailing negative perception of lawmakers.
