Reliable party sources have revealed that former President and United National Party (UNP) leader Ranil Wickremesinghe is set to enter the 10th Parliament through the New Democratic Front’s national list.
According to internal sources within the alliance, a current Member of Parliament appointed via the national list is expected to resign. The New Democratic Front, which secured three seats in the general election, received another two through the national list.
A senior alliance member stated that Ranil Wickremesinghe will be nominated for the vacant parliamentary seat following the resignation of a national list member. Although Wickremesinghe did not contest the election and was not originally on the national list, he is poised to return to Parliament.
The decision is reportedly being made to ensure the presence of an experienced leader in Parliament, particularly to guide the country through any potential future crises.
