The suspect in an investigation involving a BMW Z4 and a Mitsubishi Jeep found in a house in Kandy has told the police that a friend brought the vehicles. The vehicles were discovered at the residence of the son-in-law of former Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena. The son-in-law’s brother was questioned by the police who provided a statement.
Isuru Serem Saddhatissa, the owner of the house where the vehicles were hidden, informed the Kandy Division Criminal Investigation Department (CID) that he would soon submit the relevant documents. Saddhatissa is part of a well-known family involved in the vehicle sales business in Kandy. However, as of the afternoon of the 22nd, the documents had not yet been handed over to the police.
The police have requested a report from the government analyst to determine whether the vehicles were tampered with or brought legally. After giving a statement, Isuru Serem, the brother-in-law of former Minister Abeygunawardena, was released.
The investigation is being led by Senior Superintendent of Police Anuruddha Bandaranaike, with a team that includes Chief Inspector Tilak Samaranayake, Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Kandy Division CID.
