The National People’s Power (NPP) has strongly denied media reports claiming that the Janata Vimukti Peramuna (JVP), a key part of the NPP, is responsible for the conflict that allegedly led to the closure of Sri Jayawardenepura University.
Speaking to the media, former Member of Parliament Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa stated that “various groups are trying to blame the NPP for an unrelated incident.”
He also mentioned that this shows how the opposition has been unsettled by the upcoming presidential election.
Sajith Premadasa, leader of the Samagi Jana Balavegaya, directly accused the NPP of being involved in the conflict, stating that groups promoting terror and mob rule should not be given state power.
