Dilith Jayaweera, the leader of the Mawbima Janata Party and a former entrepreneur turned politician, emphasized the importance of unity among all ethnic groups in Sri Lanka. Speaking at the Sarva Jana Balaya Alliance’s inaugural rally in Jaffna, he pointed out the harmful effects of racism and political deception.
Jayaweera questioned whether people in the north were aware that the politicians who burned down the Jaffna library had dinner at the homes of northern politicians. He criticized Tamil politicians who, he claimed, live luxurious lives in Colombo while causing ethnic tensions for personal gain.
He argued that there isn’t a “great Sinhalese nation” or a “minority Tamil nation” but rather one united nation of Sri Lankans. He called on the people to reject the divisive tactics of selfish politicians.

Before the rally, Jayaweera and other representatives visited religious sites in Jaffna, seeking blessings from various religious leaders. This included visits to the Jaffna Naga Vihara, Jaffna Bishop’s residence, Jumma Masjid Muslim Devastan, and Nallur Kandaswamy Temple.
In his speech, Jayaweera urged the public to recognize the shared history and friendships between ethnic groups and to reject the lies and divisions created by politicians. He highlighted the loss of young lives in both the North and South due to narrow-minded politics and called for an end to such harmful practices.
