According to a special gazette issued today, the Election Commission of Sri Lanka announced that the Presidential Election will be held on September 21, 2024.
By the powers vested in the Election Commission under Section 2 of the Presidential Elections Act, No. 15 of 1981, and Article 104B of the Constitution, the Commission has set August 15, 2024, as the date for nominating candidates for the presidential election.
The Commission’s gazette notes that the current President’s term will expire on November 17, 2024. The election must be conducted no less than one month and no more than two months before the expiration of the President’s term.
