Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles says that he sent a letter to the Attorney General asking about the legal procedure to be followed regarding the controversial Jude Shramantha Jayamaha, Royal Park convicted murderer who was released under the presidential pardon by former President Maithripala Sirisena.
The Minister of Public Security says that he hopes to act in this regard on the advice of the Attorney General.
The Supreme Court ruled that former President Maithripala Sirisena’s decision to release Jude Shramantha Jayamaha, who was convicted and sentenced to death for brutally murdering a young Sri Lankan-Swedish woman named Yvonne Johnson at the Rajagiriya Royal Park housing complex on July 1, 2005, was unconstitutional. The Supreme Court delivered its verdict on last 6th.
The court also ordered Maithripala Sirisena to pay compensation of 10 million each for the victim’s mother and father.
After being freed from the death penalty, the accused Jayamaha has fled the country. The Supreme Court also ordered to Criminal Investigations Department to take measures to bring down the convicted murderer and jail again.
