A devastating fire broke out in a six-storey shopping mall in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, last night (29), resulting in the loss of 43 lives and leaving many others injured.

The fire originated from a gas leak in a restaurant named “Kachchi Bhai” on the first floor of the mall, rapidly engulfing the upper floors. The blaze erupted between 9:45 and 10:00 pm local time and continued for approximately two hours before firefighters managed to bring it under control through their valiant efforts.

Health Minister of Bangladesh, addressing the media at 2 am, confirmed 33 fatalities at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and 10 at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burns and Plastic Surgery.

In addition to the tragic loss of life, approximately 75 individuals were rescued from the scene of the fire. They were promptly provided with first aid and subsequently discharged to return home.
