The Royal International School’s Annual Sports Meet 2024 was held on 9th of February at the school ground in Kurunegala. Showcasing a magnificent display of athleticism and sportsmanship, the event witnessed an impressive turnout of over 2,500 parents all of whom supported and cheered on the young athletes.
A significant feature of the event was the grand entrance of the college flag and games flag, brought in by the school scout troops. The flags were transported via an aerial zip line landing from a distant location above the event venue, adding excitement to the annual event. The event was broadcast live on the school’s official social media platforms including Facebook and YouTube.
The sports meet saw fierce competition among the four houses of the school, Darwin, Einstein, Lincoln and Shakespeare, with each vying for the coveted championship title. In a closely contested battle, the Einstein House emerged victorious with a whopping 1,128 points, securing the championship with a remarkable performance. Shakespeare, Lincoln and Darwin Houses secured 1,104, 986 and 910 points,
respectively.
Mr. Susantha Fernando who is renowned for his exceptional contributions as a coach in various international sporting events, including the Olympic Games, World Games, and Asian Games graced the event. Being the Assistant Director of Education at Wattegama Zonal Education Department Sports and Physical Education, he is widely acclaimed as the coach of Asian Games gold medalist, Tharushi Karunarathna.
