A special joint operation conducted by the Weerangula, Bemmulla, and Pallewela Police has led to the apprehension of a criminal gang led by the notorious figure “Kalu Wasantha” and eight other accomplices. The gang was involved in a daring robbery where they intimidated a business couple and hijacked their luxury vehicle in Yakkala Mahawita.

The targeted luxury car, owned by a business couple residing in the Kalagedihena area, was stolen while the couple made a brief stop near a roadside restaurant. According to reports, the group of criminals, traveling in another luxury van, threatened the woman at knifepoint, confiscated her phone, vandalized it, and forcefully seized the vehicle before fleeing the scene.

Prompt action was taken as the victims promptly reported the incident to the Weerangula Police. Subsequently, a collaborative effort was launched involving officers from Weerangula, Bemmulla, and Pallewela police stations, who initiated a joint operation to track down the stolen vehicle using GPS technology.

The vehicle was eventually located in the Bataliya Makkanigoda area, where it had been abandoned at the end of a side road. Upon surveillance, police observed three individuals returning to the scene and preparing to reclaim the car. Swiftly, law enforcement officers moved in and apprehended one suspect who arrived with intentions to retrieve the vehicle.
