The suspect responsible for the murder of a Civil Aviation Authority employee who was killed near the main road close to the Kahathuduwa expressway exit yesterday (09) was apprehended by airport police officers while attempting to leave the country on the same day.

The victim, identified as 41-year-old Dulangali Anuruddhika Mapitiyage, a mother of one, was employed by the Katunayake Civil Aviation Authority. The alleged perpetrator, Ellawala Liyanage Dunston Prasad Perera, who operates an office in a well-known shopping complex in Bambalapitiya, Colombo, providing visa consultancy services, was arrested at Katunayaka airport around 10:35 pm.

Investigations reveal that the suspect is the elder brother of Ellawala Liyanage Dharmasiri Perera, also known as Dharmasiri, a major drug dealer abroad.

Prompt action by the police following the reported incident led to the court issuing a travel ban against the suspect. Authorities at the airport were informed, leading to the suspect’s arrest as he attempted to leave the country.
