Last weekend, Sports Minister Hareen Fernando and cricket legend Sanath Jayasuriya made a late-night visit to the hotel in Dubai where the Sri Lanka Under-19 youth cricket team, competing in the Asian Cup, was staying. The visit aimed to offer encouragement and motivation to the young players.
The duo, arriving after attending the final match of the Abu Dhabi T10 tournament, addressed the Sri Lankan team, which had already secured a victory against Japan in their first match. Despite the uplifting speech, the Sri Lanka youth team faced an unexpected defeat by 2 wickets against the United Arab Emirates in the second match.
Farveez Mahroof, involved in the commentary of the Abu Dhabi T10 match, was also present in Abu Dhabi during the visit. The Sri Lanka youth team’s semi-final prospects depend on the outcome of Bangladesh’s remaining match in the first round.
