The Negombo Divisional Secretary, K. Ayesh Perera, aged 42, was found dead this morning (31) at the official residence of the divisional secretariat. It is believed that he had taken his own life by hanging himself.

Despite being married, Perera lived alone at the residence. Investigations revealed that he had reported to duty the day before and had participated in pre-arranged official meetings over the phone in the morning.

The deceased was discovered by his driver, who had come to pick him up for duty at the residence. The driver found the divisional secretary hanging.

The police were immediately informed. However, Perera was already dead by the time they arrived. Following the examination of the body to ascertain the circumstances of his death, the judicial medical officer instructed that the body be taken to Negombo Hospital.
